Frequently Asked Questions
Is microblading right for me?
Microblading is a wonderful option for most people looking for eyebrow enhancement. However there are certain instances where it may not be the best treatment for you. Certain medications and disorders will conflict with the procedure. This is the reason all clients must complete a confidential consultation form to ensure there are no safety concerns regarding your health.
Another reason microblading may not be the right fit for you is if you have a very oily skin type. In this case there are better options for you, for example “powder brows” or “shading”.
Emote will help you pick the right option for you based on longevity and safety.
Does it hurt?
Microblading involves minimal to no discomfort. As pain thresholds vary vastly between clients the level of discomfort cannot be guaranteed. However, top of the line anesthetics are used to ensure the utmost level of comfort is achieved throughout the entire procedure. Please note that external factors can play a part in your sensitivity. For example, clients diagnosed with Fibromyalgia may experience more sensitivity. In addition, having this service completed during a clients menstrual cycle may increase discomfort.
How long does it last?
Microblading treatments are considered semi-permanent, meaning they will not wash off however they are meant to fade over time. Generally speaking the treatment lasts 1-2 years and touch up appointments are offered. The frequency of these touch up sessions depends on a number of factors including, but not limited to, lifestyle (sun exposure, smoking), chemical peels come into contact with treated areas, and the oiliness of ones skin. Please note that final results cannot be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates.
Is there downtime?
There is little to no real downtime with Microblading. Some clients will experience a redness or minor swelling for 24hrs. Very rarely clients with predisposed sensitivity will experience some bruising.
How old do I need to be?
You must be at least 18 years old to be microbladed. Having said that Emotes clients are a wide range of women and men from 18 to 84. If there are no conflicting health factors you can have microblading done at any age!
What is difference between microblading and shading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup procedure used to enhance the shape and fullness of ones brows. A disposable handheld tool, topped with a microblade, is used to deposit pigment beneath the surface of the skin creating hyper realistic, individual hair strokes. The shape and boldness of the brow is dictated by the clients bone structure and personal style.
Eyebrow shading, sometimes called "Powder Brows," uses an electric PMU machine/pen/gun to create dots onto the brows with semi-permanent ink, giving somewhat of an airbrushed look to the brows. This treatment creates a more “make-uped” effect in comparison to the individual hair strokes offered with microblading. If your skin type leans to the oilier side, this may be the best treatment for you.
The choice between these two treatments largely comes down to personal style preference.
What if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
For the health and safety of mama and babe we will not preform microblading on anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
What is the healing process like?
Immediately following your procedure, the tattooed area will appear apx 20% darker and slightly bolder than the healed results will be.
During the initial healing period, there should be very minimal irritation or flaking of the skin.
Your new eyebrows will go through several phases during the healing cycle. Because of this the healed color can only be truly assessed 4-6 weeks after treatment. Be patient they will likely go from too dark, to too light, to just right! Immediately after the procedure, the pigment will appear darker than the healed result. The color of the pigment will soften gradually. Once the healing is completed, you will enjoy a pair of beautiful, new, natural looking eyebrows.
